Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM), was officially incorporated on 26th August 2021, wholly owned by the Sabah State Government. Tasked in overseeing all aspects of mineral development and mining activities within the state, SMM operates as a state-government linked company (GLC).
Endowed with a mandate to centralise and manage all mining operations and mineral development activities, SMM serves as the main facilitator of mineral exploration and mining activities within the State.
Beyond facilitating economic negotiations, SMM is instrumental in establishing transparent criteria and standard operating procedures in the application processes. We monitor and evaluate the performance and compliance of mining lease holders and contractors, upholding standards that safeguard both environmental impacts and community well-being.
At the core of our mission is the responsible management of Sabah's mineral resources to generate sustainable revenue for the state and ensure responsibilities and sustainable mining. Integral to this objective is our commitment to fostering economic growth and social prosperity. We prioritise the creation of job opportunities across local communities, emphasising the transfer of technological expertise and the enhancement of local skills through comprehensive upskilling programmes.
